First One
Grew up believing
The first one
The first time
Would be
This magical
Joy ride
A mixed concoction
maturity and unpretentiousness
Of self
I knew not
What I would get into
Grew up believing
The first one
The first time
Would be
This magical joy ride
Aghast by his response
When I uttered
“I’m a little scared.
You know,
This is
My first time”
“You ain’t no virgin,” he said to me.
Could he not see
The innocence
Tucked away in these eyes
Every time he looked at me?
Grew up believing
The first one
The first time
Would be
This magical joy ride
The effects of his
Refusal to believe
In
The truth I spoke
Left me
With no recollection
Of what
he felt like
Once he laid his body
Right on mine
Grew up believing
The first one
The first time
Would be
This magical joy ride
Yet, all that is clear to me
Was watching his image drift away
As I closed the door
Behind me
Felt the trickling
Drops of water
Gently caress
my body
The same way
I wish
He did
Scrubbed away the scent
Of his emptiness
As I watched the child in me
Slip right down
Through that drain
Grew up believing
The first one
The first time
Would be
This magical joy ride
Reality
Was quick
To set the record straight
Mijita…
“First times”
Don’t always
End up
That great…
